The institute provides cutting-edge equipment and facilities, in particular for bioinformatics (e.g. a computing cluster with > 2000 cores) and for structural biology, as well as for cell biology, neurobiology and imaging. 

Description

The Bujnicki Laboratory in IIMCB, Warsaw offers a position for a postdoctoral researcher to study molecular evolution of RNA.A postdoctoral position is funded by the NCN grant “Structural RNomics” in the framework of the MAESTRO programme. The planned research of the successful postdoctoral candidate will focus on studying the evolution of RNA sequences, structures and functions, and will include mostly the use of computational methods (sequence searches, structure prediction, molecular phylogenetics) to answer biological questions. The project involved collaboration with other theoreticians and experimentalists in the Bujnicki group. We are looking for candidates with PhD in bioinformatics, molecular biology or related area, and with experience in molecular phylogenetics. Candidates with experience in RNA bioinformatics will have advantage. Experience in programming is not required, but may be advantageous. Candidates must have excellent command of English and must be eligible for PhD studies in Poland starting January 2015 or earlier.We offer a chance to work in an interdisciplinary laboratory that combines theory and experiment. We use a wide range of techniques, from the development of computational methods for modeling of RNA 3D structure, folding, and dynamics, prediction and design of macromolecular interactions, to experimental research of RNA-protein interactions, and structural analyses of RNA and RNA-protein complexes. We also use computational docking and design of small molecules, and we validate predictions experimentally. All projects involve direct collaboration with bioinformaticians, experimental biochemists, and structural biologists.The Bujnicki group studies sequence-structure-function relationships in proteins and nucleic acids. Our team comprises experimentalists and theoreticians with a very wide area of expertise. We develop computer software, use bioinformatics to make structural and functional predictions, and we test hypotheses in the wet lab. Examples of our successes include the development of software for modeling of protein and RNA structures (e.g. GeneSilico metaserver, ModeRNA), identification and characterization of new enzymes responsible for RNA maturation, and engineering of nucleases with new substrate specificities. Benefits

A fixed salary is offered (umowa o pracę, 5000 PLN/month netto), initially for one year in the period of time January 1st 2015 to December 31st 2015, with a possibility for extension and additional funding, depending on the success of the project.
