An EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Computational Methods for Materials Science

Applications are invited for a four-year MPhil + PhD Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) Programme at the University of Cambridge which will train students in the development and application of computational methods for predicting, understanding and enhancing properties of materials.
Computational modelling plays an increasingly important role in the understanding, development and optimisation of new materials. Our CDT will train scientists not only in the use of existing modelling methods but also in the underlying computational and mathematical techniques. The CDT has the support of many industrial partners who are funding PhD places and providing industrial placements, as well as being fully involved in the teaching, training and research elements of the CDT Programme.
The first year of the CDT Programme provides an education in Computational Methods for Materials Science of the highest quality at a graduate level and leads to an MPhil qualification. The University’s ability to offer this course in 2019/20 depends on funding decisions scheduled to be made by the EPSRC in December 2018 for all CDTs seeking renewal. We will therefore not be able to confirm any offers of admission until at least December 2018. Applications will nevertheless be assessed as they are received, so you should not delay in submitting your application. If the course is not offered, then either your application fee will be refunded, as well as travel expenses to attend for interview, or (with your consent) your application may be transferred to another course.
