Job Description

The applicant will be conducting research on the cellular signaling pathways called Wnt-signaling. The main focus of the work is the regulation of Dishevelled and beta-Catenin by several regulatory inputs. For example, beta- Catenin is the main effector of canonical Wnt-signaling and very often mutated in disease contexts ranging from cancer to neural degeneration. Moreover, Wnt- signaling is critical for stem cell maintenance and regeneration capacity of stem cells in humans. The work is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/NIGMS, NICHD, NEI. The applicant is an expert in the field with several years of experience. He/she will conduct the experiments in several disease models, ranging from Drosophila to human cell lines, including cancer cell lines. Their experimental strengths are aligned with the project and are in the genetic and biochemical dissection of signaling processes. They will continue ongoing work, which is based on experimental cell lines and Drosophila strains that allow live imaging of the actual molecular process. The work is of highest importance in the context of stem cell maintenance and regeneration, and diseases like cancer. There is no alternative job candidate with the relevant experimental skills and intellectual understanding of the process. The experiments that will be performed will also have significant potential for a therapeutic impact in the regulation of Wnt-signaling in disease contexts, and again are of highest importance in the context of stem cell maintenance and cancer therapeutics.
