POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW-MSH
Roles & Responsibilities:
Candidate will be involved in both cancer and covid-19-related research. Research projects will be aimed at understanding oncogenic signaling and drug resistance mechanisms to design novel, more effective therapeutic strategies for the treatment of cancer. Effects of targeted therapeutics on signaling pathways in various immune cell compartments (T cells, macrophages etc) will also be studied, and the knowledge gained will be used to design better therapies for cancer patients. A major issue in coivd-19 disease is the induction of cytokine storm, due to deregulated signaling in immune cells (mainly macrophages and dendritic cells). The candidate will interrogate human and mouse cultures of certain immune cell types (e.g. macrophages, dendritic cells etc) using small-molecule inhibitor libraries to identify actionable signaling nodes. This work is expected to both promote our understanding of immune cell signaling, as well as enable the development of potential novel therapeutics for covid-19 patients.
Requirements:
Basic training (Bachelor of Science) in Biology, Master of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Doctorate (PhD) in Biosciences: cancer biology, cancer treatment and translational medicine are required. Extensive research experience is required, involving DNA/RNA extraction and handling, DNA transfection, PCR and RT-PCR, Cell culture, Virus handling, Protein extraction and purification, Antibody generation, Immunoprecipitation, Western blot, Immunofluorescence, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, Fluorimetric enzyme assays, Proliferation, migration, invasion and adhesion assays, Apoptosis assay by flow cytometry and Cell cycle assay by flow cytometry. Key qualifications include experience in studies of components of cell signaling pathways in cancer. Preferred experience includes background in usage of biological databases and statistical analysis. Finally, position requires experimental data analysis and preparation of manuscripts, as well as presentations in Institutional and National scientific meetings.
