Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral research associate or research assistant starting as soon as possible. The successful candidate will work on a BBSRC-funded project called "A toolkit of customised tension sensors for interrogating mechanical forces in the cell" in the lab of Prof Laura Itzhaki, Department of Pharmacology, University of Cambridge.
The project exploits the mechanical properties of a class of spring-like biomolecules known as tandem-repeat proteins. The physical strength of these molecules can be straightforwardly and predictably manipulated with simple protein engineering approaches, with which we are creating a toolkit of tension sensors and use it to understand mechanical forces in biology. Applicants should have a first degree or PhD in an area relevant to the project with knowledge of molecular biology and recombinant protein expression and purification. The key duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to: conducting the research project independently, ability to troubleshoot and solve routine problems, writing up research work for presentation and publication, and managing own administrative activities.
The funds for this post are available for 15 months. The salary range if appointed as a Research Associate is £33,309-£40,927 per annum and the salary range if appointed as Research Assistant is £27,116-£31,406 per annum with promotion to Research Associate on attainment of PhD if applicable.
