We are seeking a talented Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Professor Fiona Powrie's Mucosal Immunology Group at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology. Building on the lab's recent work to identify the role of Alpk1-deficiency in driving colitis in a mouse model of disease (10.1038/s41467-018-06085-5), you will investigate the microbial pattern recognition receptor and protein kinase, Alpk1, and its role in microbial sensing. The project will be in collaboration with Professor Philip Cohen's Laboratory at the University of Dundee and may require the post-holder to spend some time there.
With the capacity to deliver high-quality research outputs, you will be responsible for developing the research project, reporting regularly to the Group Head to ensure its smooth-running, as well as planning new studies with other members of the team. Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of relevant publications in the research area, you will use your knowledge to supervise more junior members of the lab and actively participate in a variety of meetings, travelling to international seminars and workshops as required.
You will have, or be near to completing, a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Immunology or a related subject, and have proven research skills in cellular and molecular immunology, including immune signalling pathways. Extensive experience working with cell culture, practical experience of CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, and experience with in vivo immunology techniques and models of inflammatory disease are also essential.
This is a full-time position which is fixed-term until 30 September 2025.
