The Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology (PSC) is a recently established institution of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with joint funding from the Chinese central government and the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences. PSC fosters innovative, vibrant, and interactive research groups synergized by a battery of state-of-the-art core facilities including genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, cell biology and biotechnology. PSC is located in the Chenshan Botanical Garden, just 25 miles away from the city centre.
Research overview
The overall purpose of our group (www.macholabpsc.com) is to decipher the molecular basis of biotic stress caused by bacterial pathogens, and the mechanisms of plant disease resistance. We are interested in understanding alterations in plant signaling, metabolism, hormonal balances, and proteomic changes, underlying both immune responses and bacterial virulence activities. Our goal is to generate fundamental knowledge and to deploy applied strategies to achieve sustainable solutions to fight plant disease. For our research, we use an integrated multidisciplinary approach combining biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics, on both pathogen and host plants.
We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual, willing to work as part of an international team. Experience in molecular biology is essential; a MSc degree is desirable but not necessary. The ability to communicate in English is required. The main task of the successful candidate will be to assist in basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, especially cloning and plasmid construction.
Initial appointment is for three years but flexible.
