The group of Dr Evangelos Tatsis based at the Center for Excellence in Molecular Plants Sciences (CEMPS) invites applications for Post-doctor research associate to work on biosynthesis of monoterpene indole alkaloids.
Group Description
The fundamental goal of our group is to determine how plants make natural products. Our major focus is to elucidate, understand and engineer the metabolic pathways which are responsible for the biosynthesis of natural products from Chinese medicinal plants. To address these important goals, we have an approach based on genomic resources, utilizing bioinformatics, molecular biology and enzymology techniques, with synthetic biology. Our lab is part of the Centre of Excellence for Plant & Microbial Science (CEPAMS) a collaboration between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the John Innes Centre (JIC) https://www.cepams.org/tatsis-lab.
Job Description/ Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated post-doc with PhD in Organic Synthesis willing to work as part of an international team. Experience in organic synthesis is essential; the ability to communicate in English is required.
The successful candidate will work to deconvolute the mechanism behind the catalysis of p450 enzymes that play important role in metabolic pathway of monoterpene indole alkaloids. The project is the continuation of work on p450s from the following work https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-017-00154-x.
The postholder is expected to synthesize substrates and their analogues and test them against enzymes and their mutants. The successful applicant is expected to be trained in molecular biology, biochemistry, and structural biology techniques.
The postholder will be encouraged and supported to apply for fellowships and grants at National and Shanghai level. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the project leader Dr Evangelos Tatsis, as well as with other members of the group. Training and mentoring students is part of the role as well as assisting and advising other lab members. Tasks related to lab organization and management are expected to be part of the postholder duties. The successful applicant is expected to interact with other scientific staff of CEMPS as well as with the administration and supporting services of CEMPS.
