Postdoctoral Fellow

We are seeking a physical scientist or engineer for a postdoctoral position in the Robotics and Medical Systems Program at SRI International. The candidate will join a team working to develop a micro-robotic system. The candidate should be hands-on and have a demonstrated capability to innovate and turn ideas into functional prototypes. Good communication skills for working in a team as well as writing papers and proposals are critical.

Responsibilities:

- Process development for small-scale assembly of parts.

- Software development in C++ and C#.

- Mechanical design and build of experimental fixtures.

- Design and build of analog and digital electrical circuits.

- CAD layout for circuits or photolithography.

- Journal article writing and publishing.

- Grant and proposal writing.

Requirements:

- Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, mechanical, or materials engineering.

- Deep understanding of electromagnetism.

- Background in building hardware (electrical and mechanical) and writing software for research.

- Experience with component assembly and packaging for integrated circuits, optoelectronics, MEMS, or microfluidics, including but not limited to: wire bonding, component alignment, pick-and-place.

- Experience with self-assembly or passive alignment of components.

- Experience with microfabrication techniques (such as for integrated circuits, optoelectronics, MEMS,or microfluidics).Must be either a U.S. citizen or a Permanent Resident of the U.S.
