The laboratory of Dr. Sattar Khoshkhoo in the Department of Neurology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in collaboration with Dr. August Yue Huang at Boston Children's Hospital are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with a passion for computational biology and genomics. The postdoc candidate will be jointly mentored by Drs. Khoshkhoo and Huang. The position offers a minimal annual salary of $70,000 and is adjustable based on research experience.

The mission of the Khoshkhoo lab is to unravel the great genetic diversity that arises from post-zygotic (i.e., somatic) somatic mutations in the human brain. The lab is interested in studying somatic variation as it pertains to typical brain development as well as in neurological diseases like epilepsy. To that end, we use cutting edge genomic techniques such as duplex sequencing, long-read sequencing, and single-cell DNA and RNA sequencing. We are also actively developing new experimental and computational methods for studying somatic mutations at increasing scale and precision. In close collaboration with the Huang lab and others, we are 1) Developing new experimental and computational tools to identify somatic mutations from various types of bulk and single-cell high-throughput sequencing data; 2) Understanding the pathogenic contribution and mechanism of somatic mutations in various diseases for better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment; and 3) Investigating the mechanisms underlying somatic mutation accumulation in various human tissues, as well as their functional impacts on the transcriptome and epigenome of carrier cells.

Candidate qualifications include:

PhD and/or MD in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, or other related fields.

Proficiency with high-throughput sequencing data analysis and cluster/cloud computing.

Expertise in variant calling, single-cell analysis, and machine/deep learning (preferred but not required).

Strong programming and statistical skills (e.g., Python, Perl, R, Bash).

Track record of first-author research papers.
